ZERO-RATED SITES

During this lockdown period due to the COVID-19 pandemic, many scholars from all levels of learning and many different socio-economic backgrounds, have been doing many of their lessons, classes and learning online.

In South Africa, the vast majority of the population relies solely on data to access any online content. Many do not have access to unlimited, uncapped internet, and cannot afford the extensive amount of data it would take to stream classes online, and as such mobile networks in South Africa have partnered with universities, schools and many online learning platforms to zero-rate these sites.

Zero-rating sites is the process of making a site accessible without the effect of any data costs. Students are therefore able to access these sites and continue their learning process, without the stress of overwhelming data costs.
